Gloucester Sport are delighted to announce St Peter's High School as their educational partner for both football and basketball development pathways.
Gloucester Sport CEO, Jay Marriott had this to say:
"Our aim both in football and basketball development phases is to give our talent of the future a high level sporting environment but more importantly a high level education. St Peter's High School bring a wealth of experience with student/athletes and we are proud to be partnering with them moving forward."
This year the 16-18 year old football academy has already started at St Peter's with 16 Gloucester City AFC players attending St Peter's High School for their education. This is combined with 15 hours a week of coaching, elite performance and analysis.
Head of Sport at St Peter's, Stuart Crabb had this to say:
"We are delighted to partner with Gloucester Sport building a pathway for student/athletes to develop both on and off the field of sport. I'm passionate about education and performance going hand in hand for these young athletes. Gloucester Sport impressed us with the focus of our partnership and message to players in the pathway is education matters. We don't pigeon hole these young student/athletes in to one course we encourage them to explore the options best suited to them educationally. You can be a successful student and still be an elite athlete and that's the potential we intend to unlock."
The partnership has also seen St Peter's High School be the practice hub for the new professional Women's basketball team, the Gloucester City Queens, who play in the top league of British Basketball. Whilst also becoming the home venue for the Gloucester City Kings and Gloucester Saxons. With the view of developing academy status for the basketball program next September.
