Jay Marriott will take charge of the Gloucester City Queens in their debut season in the WBBL. Marriott who has previously coached the Plymouth Raiders in the BBL, in Utah and the Middle East, returns to the frontline of British Basketball with the South West side.
“I’m thrilled to be taking charge in the first season for the club in the WBBL. I’ve overseen all of the recruitment and developed the key relationships with the players so it was an easy decision on my part to be able to coach this first season.”
“We knew from the beginning that the experience I’ve had coaching would give us some breathing room in the coaching department should the situation not be right at the moment for another appointment.” “I’m really passionate about the WBBL and growing the women’s game. I can’t wait for us to get underway.
The Queens have also appointed Jimmy Bowers as assistant coach, Callum Bird in charge of Basketball Operations and Ian Greaves as Club Secretary.
“I’m excited to work with Jimmy, Callum and Ian this season. Tim will join us when he can as well, to join up our coaching staff.”
“Jimmy is everything you need in an assistant coach. He is young, hungry and also has some real pedigree having worked out in California at NCAA Division One level. Callum is an aspiring coach but also can bring us some much needed analytical data that will give us some personal benchmarks built on numbers and also great scouting that our players can tap into. Ian comes with a wealth of experience and a real passion for his local area, he is an important piece for me personally knowing he can help share the load with me now I’m deciding to coaching also.”
Marriott played professionally for ten years including spells at Birmingham Bullets and the Plymouth Raiders.
