Kings head to Scotland

Gloucester City Kings U18's Academy are finishing 2023 in style as they take a 3 day tour to Edinburgh, Scotland to take part in the Boroughmuir Blaze Bill McInnes Tournament weekend.

In it's first year the tournament weekend honors Scotland basketball legend Bill McInnes who sadly passed away in 2017. In 1976 he set the the British Basketball record for 49 consecutive games played for Great Britain. A record that took 45 years to surpass for the man remembered as 'the greatest Scotsman to ever play the game'.

MD of Gloucester City Basketball, Jay Marriott had this to say:

We are truly honored to be invited to such a special tournament, the academy is about so much more than just basketball so to be able to take a trip like this with so many elements to learn and experience it will be special for all of us. I'm thankful to GB Coach Alan Keane for making this possible for us and to give our student/athletes such a great opportunity.

The weekend will consist of a coaching workshop that our MD Jay Marriott will be presenting alongside some of the sharpest minds in British Basketball, including GB Coaches Alan Keane and Ian MacLeod, U18's exhibition games and finally the men's tournament where a number of the academy players have been called up to impress men's Head Coach, Jimmy Bower.

Look out on the socials as the club will be putting out daily content around the trip.
