Fitzpatrick signs for Queens

Maura Fitzpatrick has signed for Gloucester City Queens in their debut season in the WBBL.

The 5’11” guard/forward had a stellar college career with Marist before turning professional playing in Germany for Bamberg and then Sweden last year, where she represented Wetterbygden Sparks.

“I’m so excited to be a part of the Gloucester City Queens this season!”

“I think it’s going to be a great opportunity to continue my playing career,” reflected Fitzpatrick. “We have a lot of talent, so I think it’s going to be a really fun season! I can’t wait for the season to begin.”

During her college days at Marist, Fitzpatrick was a starter in the team, averaging 34 minutes and 9.4 points per game, she has a reputation for being a lockdown defender named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year in the 2016-17 season.

Gloucester’s CEO Jay Marriott commented:

“Maura was a late find for us and from the first time I watched her play I saw a Gloucester City Queen. In college she was used to playing multiple positions and showed toughness to go against players bigger or smaller in match ups. She adds more shooting prowess that will help us spread the floor even more.”

“Coming off a season in Sweden which is a really tough league gave me an indication she can make a really great impression on the league. What’s important to me is that in the early conversations it’s just an easy relationship for us that has lots of synergy, Maura was just great so had to get this deal done.”
