Coach's Corner: 2021/22 Season.

With the WBBL season wrapping in emphatic style at the O2 Arena in London this past weekend, I thought I would offer my end of season thoughts.

First of all congratulations to the London Lions, not only for their WBBL playoff final success but for the perfect season. They have set a high bar for us as a league, done us proud in Europe and showcased the very best UK talent.

Our inaugural season was one of true highs and lows. When I signed up to this project I knew starting a brand new franchise in a short period of time would be challenging. All involved from players to staff showed remarkable resilience and I’m proud of every single one of them. I’ve maintained all along that our aim this season was for the league to look at us and feel they made the right decision in accepting us as a franchise. In my eyes our brand, our venue and before a brutal series of injuries and COVID protocols our players showed the league our potential.

On the court, I think my favourite moment was our home victory over the Nottingham Wildcats. Before Christmas, they crushed us on their home floor so to show the hard work and progression that a month later we were able to beat a strong franchise like the Wildcats was a fantastic achievement. The atmosphere for that game was incredible, which was a testament to our new fan base. Off the court, the best part of any season is the relationships and bonds you make along the way. As I mentioned earlier the resilience we showed as a group with some reflection was something to be proud of.

Looking forward we have been working hard in the background on new partnerships, recruitment, and a new holistic structure. All this and more will set us up to come into season two stronger than before.

We look forward to sharing these exciting developments with you as we strive to build a professional club that serves it’s local community.

Thank you for all your support.
