Coaches Corner: A new era begins for the Kings

With the Gloucester City Kings starting their National League campaign today, we caught up with Head Coach Adam Stacey on pre-season, expectations and one's to watch in the Kings inaugural season.

It's the first season for the Gloucester City Kings in National League, what attracted you to the job?

I coached NBL several seasons ago so the plan was always to return to this level of basketball. I'm passionate about giving our local talented players aspiration and opportunity by playing the highest levels we can. I'm very excited with our group this season.

How has pre-season preparations been for the new season?

Pre-season has been really productive we were able to get 4 games under our belt, challenging ourselves against high level opposition such as USA Select and Ipswich and combining that with teams we will face at our level. We have learnt a lot about ourselves, what we do well and where we need to improve.

What are your expectations for the season?

My expectations are that we achieve at minimum a top mid table position, I know we will surprise some teams however the South West Division 3 league is strong this season.

Who are the players to watch out for this season?

I would watch out for Grigoris, he is our swiss army knife as a player and a real pleasure to watch out there and Ibrahim our PG, a very experienced player that brings leadership to the group.

Opening game this weekend, what are you looking for from the team in terms of performance?

We play against Cardiff Met first team who have dropped down from Division 2 so I'm expecting a really tough first test for us. I am expecting them to be young, athletic and quick in transition. For us it's about controlling that nervous excitement of embarking on this journey, sticking to our game plan and my experienced players helping us bring the win back home to Gloucester.
