Coach Bower | 2023/24 Season Review

Gloucester City Kings Men's Head Coach, Jimmy Bower looks back on season of foundation with a club record 6-8, finishing 6th in NBL Division 3. After a slow start Kings hit form in the second half of the season and finished this past weekend on a high with arguably the most entertaining game of the season.

Coach Jimmy Bower began with praise for his squad:

This season was so much more than just wins and losses, I wanted to build a culture that could serve as a building block for this team for years to come. We had some ups and downs but credit to all my guys they fought hard all season to uphold that culture both on and off the court. Special mentions should go to my leadership team of Villie, Rhys and Gabbie who through it all kept belief, which saw big performance improvements in the second half of the season. Let's not also forget the great support staff I've had in Jake, Mark, James and Olga, again they remained unwavering in their dedication to all the details that enable growth in a team so thank you.

Coach Bower continued with the relationship with the University of Gloucestershire:

I'm grateful the the University of Gloucestershire and the relationship as a club we have, we were able to welcome Australian, Fraser MacDonald, a masters student, recruited to help us both with BUCS and National League. With this being something we hope to do every year I want to personally thank Fraser, as that first player we have recruited he has been everything our program and culture needed. I think for all of us with the realisation he won't be with us next season are incredibly sad because he became family to all of us and will be a KING for life.

Coach Bower finished with his excitement for the future:

We were proud to promote five academy players this season who especially towards the end of the season gave us a glimpse of what the future looks like for our program. We made it a priority to make sure young and upcoming talent get the opportunities I wish were available in the county when I was a player. The future certainly is bright and shows just how integral an academy that provides professional coaching, facilities and time can be. The connection myself and Jay have had all season and the chance I get to work with and see these young players gives me a chance to prioritize their growth.
