Gloucester City Basketball have a number of exciting updates to share as they look to grow in structure and offering for the 2022/23 season.
As a club we are delighted to hear the renewal of Kappa UK as the exclusive apparel sponsor for both the BBL and WBBL. We have enjoyed our relationship with the brand, in particular Gareth Fair and look forward to another season with them.
BBL Update:
In light of the significant investment that has recently come into the league, the BBL has notified us that they will be taking the 2022/23 season to review their arrangements for new franchises, including what support they will be providing as they seek to ensure that new teams have the very best opportunity for success. This move is clearly in the best interest of both parties and aligned to this the BBL have indicated they will re-engage with the club, once their review is complete and we work towards a re-application in 2023/24.
In the meantime, Gloucester City Basketball are looking to build their men's basketball offering, seeing the Gloucester City Kings brand featuring on three levels, joining the NBL, WEBBA and GBBA competitions. You can find the latest updates here.
WBBL Update:
The Gloucester City Queens continue to fly the flag for professional women's basketball in the South West. CEO, Jay Marriott and Coach Jimmy Bowers have been working hard to build a competitive roster and staff for the 2022/23 season. We are just weeks away from exciting player announcements, trial dates, brand refreshes, new kit designs and much more. Stay up to date with all things Queens here.
Staff Update:
With CEO, Jay Marriott moving back to his over-arching role, he has moved quickly to make some key additions to his staff. As intimated many times, Jimmy Bowers will become the Head Coach of the Gloucester City Queens with Jacob Dearman and Shanice Turner joining his backroom staff. Adam Stacey becomes the new Head Coach of the Gloucester City Kings, as the club look to take a big step forward with their men's pathway. Carlos Moreira joins as the Head of Basketball Development, bringing with him valuable experience within both basketball and business management. His role will be to strengthen the club from a development and performance point of view. Poppy Williams comes onboard in a business development role, helping the club both to move forward commercially as well as build image and reputation around the county and country. Partnership Updates:
Gloucester City Basketball will see the growth of two key partnerships moving forward. The University of Gloucestershire gave the club an impressive home venue, Oxstalls Sports Park, for the Gloucester City Queens professional games to take place in their inaugural season. They now build on the relationship with the club now taking over their BUCS program, giving the ability for student/athletes to play at the highest level. St Peter's High School have been integral in the growth of the club, providing a home venue for our community, youth and men's programs. As well as continuing to grow these programs the partnership will extend to working with the school to deliver a 16-18 year old basketball academy, seeing some of the top local talent already sign up for September. Community Update:
With club developed to serve the community it heads into the summer with some exciting new programs and initiatives ready to launch. At the end of the month is the first, a six week men's summer league with seven local teams competing. Heading into July will see the launch of the City JNRS program for U8's, U10's and U12's with the focus on fun competition, positive role models and confidence building sessions. The final important update is over the coming days the club will be streamlining it's media in order to encompass all it's pathway. The Gloucester City Queens are the beacon that we wish to shine a light across all we have to offer, highlighting our vision of providing basketball for ALL across the county.
