Charity Partner: Emily's Gift

Gloucester City Basketball announce Emily's Gift as their charity partner for the 2023/24 season.

The aim of Emily’s Gift is to raise £500,000 by 10th March 2024 to fund the employment of a psychologist for children having cancer treatment and their families on the Emily Kent Unit (paediatric oncology) at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. The funds raised by Emily’s Gift will secure the post for 10 years.

In addition to children in remission who need to be scanned regularly, there are currently over 30 children receiving cancer treatment in the Emily Kent Unit. A psychologist will help provide the professional emotional support that these children and their families desperately need.

Managing Director, Jay Marriott had this to say:

As a father of three young children this charity was instantly close to my heart. There are so many simple as well as creative ways in which we can support the charity for the entire season. We don't just want to be a donation, we want to interact with the charity and the hospital to give each area of our club an understanding of who we are supporting. We are certainly looking forward to Julie's passion on our sidelines this season.

Founder of Emily's Gift, Julie Kent had this to say:

We are really excited to be part of the Gloucester City Basketball family and proud to have Emily's Gift on their kit. Young people are struggling with their mental health generally without having the added stress of cancer treatment, which effects the whole family. Lets make this new season game changing in every way.

The Emily's Gift logo will feature on the soon to be released 2023/24 Men's, U18's and Wheelchair kits to raise awareness. Fans and followers can donate using our Just Giving page on our website or click here.

Stay tuned this week for our plans to GO GOLD in September in the name of Emily's Gift.
